Student Leadership Connection offers a helping hand this holiday season

The recent economic downfall has led to many families looking for additional assistance this holiday season.  Offering a helping hand, Hamilton High School’s SLC community group has reached out and “adopted a family” provided to them by Love, Inc.

“We help out by buying Christmas presents, warm winter clothing, cleaning supplies, and food for Christmas dinner,” said community group leader Elizabeth Vandenbil. On November 12 and 19 the group gathered other volunteers and went door-to-door asking for pop can donations to raise money.

“We want to raise as much as possible,” said Elizabeth Vandenbil, “so we also applied for a grant from Meijer in the form of a gift card.” On top of monetary assistance the SLC will also collect canned goods for the Christmas dinner.

“I’m greatly blessed with opportunities and I have the ability to help those in need.  It’s a privilege to help others,” said Vandenbil.  Anyone else wishing to contribute to this great cause can help by bringing in pop cans to their summit or contacting the SLC community group for more information.
