Band leaves marching festival victorious

The marching band competed at the MSBOA Marching Festival at the Zeeland High School football stadium on Tuesday, October 3 and received a first division rating, the highest possible.

“It was great to know that all the work we put in during the season wasn’t for nothing,” junior Eric Peterson said.

The band did not do very well at their previous competition, so the success at festival was greatly celebrated.

“Within about ten days, we put a lot of hard work and time into cleaning our show,” senior Marissa Williams said.

In order to earn a first division rating, a band must receive an A- or better on at least two of the three judges’ sheets.

“The band earned a B+ for Music, an A- for General Effect and an A for Marching. So, the overall came out to an A-, which would be a first division,” band director Mr. Joe Herrick said.  “Our forms on the field took shape better and the individual marching ability of each of our band students really improved!”

Although the marching band will perform at halftime of the remaining home football games, their performance at the MSBOA Marching Festival marked the official end of their successful season.
