Bell 5th, Hawkeyes 6th at Wayland golf invitational

The Hamilton Varsity Girls Golf team finished 6th at the Wayland Invitational at Orchard Hills Golf Course on Wednesday with a score of 433.

It was a close match, with Hamilton just 6 points behind Grand Rapids West Catholic-Central, who finished third.

Coach Kevin Arnold concluded that the team needs to be more consistent.

“If we all played our normal game we may have been 3rd or better,” he said.

There was one shining moment of achievement on Wednesday when Jessica Bell, a senior at Hamilton, shot a 98, to tie for fifth place, and received a medal.

“The medal to me is a great achievement and something I feel really excited about accomplishing,” Bell said. It was a result of a lot of hard work, and encouragement from the team, as well as Coach Arnold.

“(We’re) really excited for her. She played really well,” Arnold said, also adding that it was the first medal received by a Varsity Girls golfer since he has been a coach.

Bell has high expectations for the rest of the season.

“I want us to finish really strong as a team this year,” she said. “We have a really good chance of making it to State.”
