Boys swim and dive soar past Unity Christian

Hamilton soared to their first league win over Unity Christian Tuesday night 10-75.  They improved to a perfect 7-0 season and 1-0 conference record.

Making new state cuts were Ryan Hagen in 200 freestyle and Austin Fathman in the 100 backstroke.

Individual winners were John LaPorta in the 200 individual medley (IM) and 100 free, Joey DeGood in the 50 free and 100 breaststroke, Dylan Harris in the 500 free, Ryan Overhiser in 1-meter diving.

Relay winners were the team of LaPorta, Fathman, Drew Scholten, and Zach Lepird in the 200 medley relay, LaPorta DeGood, Hagen, and Harris in the 200 free relay, and Hagen, Cameron Beyer, Cameron Wideman, and Phillip VanOss in the 400 free relay.

Tonight they face Grand Rapids Christian, who are ranked 5th in Division III.

“They have a team that is very deep,” Coach Eric Talsma said.

They will finish the season with four tough dual meets in a row, including tonight, Byron Center, Holland Christian, and the combined Zeeland team. Their main focus is to finish strong and do well in the conference and state meets.

“Overall we have been practicing and training very well so I feel confident that we will meet our goals,” Talsma said about completing the team goals this season.
