A big congratulations to the boys varsity tennis team. They qualified for state by scoring 19 points and placing 3rd in the regional competition on Friday, Oct. 12, in Holland.

“We were very happy and excited that as a team we had accomplished one of our preseason goals of qualifying for the state tournament,” Coach Steve Lubbers said.

“It wasn’t in my mind at first, but I am very surprised and happy that our team pulled through and made it to (state) finals,” junior Brent Taratuta said.

This is the second time in 3 years that they have qualified for state.

“I feel the entire team did a great job of staying focused on the job they had to do on Friday,” Coach Lubbers said. “They all knew that each flight had to win their first round to be able to give ourselves a chance to qualify. That can be very hard to do in a tournament like this. All the players had a great day and they all responded to the pressure wonderfully.”

The tennis team will be playing in state finals in Friday, Oct. 19, at Holland Christian.
