Buresh, Scholten lead Hawkeyes to first conference victory

Senior Cody Buresh helps lead the Hawkeyes to their first conference victory with 25 points and 7 rebounds.

The Hamilton varsity basketball team won their first conference game of the year hosting Rogers on Friday night. Senior Cody Buresh scored 25 points to lead the Hawkeyes to a 60-48 victory over Rogers.

The Hawkeyes only hit three 3-pointers on Friday, but they all came at a good time. The score was tied at 14 a piece with 7:00 left in the second quarter when junior Chris Scholten seemed to catch fire as he hit three 3-pointers in less than four minutes to give the Hawkeyes a 31-21 lead going into the second half.

The Hawkeyes never looked back from there as they rolled to an easy OK-Green victory to better their record to 3-3 and get their first home win of the year.

Both Buresh and Scholten had big games for the Hawkeyes. Buresh with 25 points and 7 rebounds, and Scholten with 11 points and 9 rebounds.

The Hawkeyes were helped out by a great 6th man (student section) on Friday night. “The students were great, the fans coming out to support us like they did on Friday just makes us want to play even better to represent our school and our community,” said coach Sikma when asked about the student section on Friday night.
