Collin Welcher takes 2nd at individual state meet

Collin Welcher - 103 lb. state runner-up

Hamilton junior Collin Welcher finished a tremendous season by placing second at 103 lbs. at the Division II state finals in Auburn Hills.

Welcher (50-3) lost the state title meet to Goodrich senior Isaac Jewell (45-5) by an 8-1 decision.

Jewell, the state runner-up at 103lbs. last year in Division III, and his Goodrich team moved up a division this year.  His loss last year was by a 12-6 score to Zack Cooper from Remus Chippewa Hills.

Despite the loss, Welcher posted the best finish for a Hawkeye wrestler at the state meet since Andy Cook won the Division III state title back in 2002 at 130 lbs.

Congratulation on the season, Collin!
