Competitive cheer is back

After a rocky start, the Hamilton competitive cheer team is hoping for a successful season.  With two solid stunt groups and ten competitions lined up, the girls are anticipating worthwhile season.

“I’m glad to be back on a team after not having one last year,” said senior Amanda Schoeppe.  “I think we’ll have a good time this season.”

A cheer competition consists of three rounds: creativity, skills, and stunting.  The Hamilton Cheer Team will be competing in ten competitions this season.  The Holiday Bash competition, hosted by Gobles High School, will take place sometime around Christmas.

With only nine girls showing up for try-outs out of the twenty some that signed up, Coach Krystal Shelton had her worries.

“I was expecting a lot more participation,” Shelton said.  “It threw us for a loop when only a third of the expected cheerleaders showed up for tryouts.”

Worries seemed to fade as the season started. “We are really good at the precision drill, and our stunting is amazing,” said Senior Kelly Klingenberg.

The remaining members of the team are excited for the challenges they face ahead and are excited about their first competition.
