Cross country hosts rare home meet

On Wednesday, September 21, the Hamilton cross country teams hosted a conference meet against Wyoming Park.

“We were very excited to have a home meet,” Coach Jeremy Luhmann said. “Its a great opprotunity for more of our friends and family to come out and watch us.”

“It’s nice to be at home,” second-year runner Elizabeth Vandenbil said, “because it’s not something that happens often.”

The teams both defeated Park, and all of the Hamilton girls finished the race before any of the Wyoming Park girls.  The top runners for the girls were Molly Oren, Cathy Coryell and Emily Oren,  with Brett Slayton, Brian Sheridan and Kray Freestone leading the boys.

The course started by the practice football field, went through the athletic fields between the junior and senior high, and wrapped around the front of the junior high amongst other obstacles.

According to Coach Luhmann, the team had some work to do to get the course ready for the meet.

“The runners and I picked up some of the construction garbage, raked over some of the dirt mounds from the construction, moved a dumpster off the path, pulled lots of weeds and marked important parts of the course(to prepare for the meet),” he said.

For him, the most exciting part was being on their home course and running it well.
