Cross country walking on sunshine at state

The girls cross country team won regionals this year, which allowed them to go to state. This year’s state meet was at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich.  The team placed 10th.

“Being at state is very exciting because there are so many runners,” Jacquelynn Overbeek said. “I’m always extremely nervous, but it is a very cool experience.”

The cross county team had two students receive Academic All-State honors. These students were Anna Sall and Taylor Compton.

“I’m very proud of them,” coach Jeremy Luhmann said. “This award tells me that they have achieved a high standard in the classroom and in the athletic arena.”

As the season went on the team bonded together. Now that the season is done they will miss the daily interaction that they had.

“I will miss seeing everyone every day,” Anna Sall said. “We (are) all pretty good friends and we always had fun even when workouts were really hard. Every day there was encouragement and smiling. It was just a really good stress relieving atmosphere.”
