Equestrian team earns District Reserve Champion at last meet

The girls pose with their awards earned this season.

For the third meet in a row, Hamilton got second place at the district meet and maintained their second place position in the overall division points standings.

Even though the girls earned significantly fewer points this meet than the other two, they still beat out Unity Christian by over 40 points for the title of District Reserve Champions.

Besides the points standings, the Hamilton girls also earned another award that, some would argue, is far more rewarding than being the reserve champs. The Hamilton girls were presented with the district Sportsmanship award  – an award voted on by 14 other schools. Each coach nominates a team that they believe displayed the best sportsmanship of the season, and Hamilton was selected for the award this year.

“Being recognized by others for being outstanding people is ultimately more important than winning any competition,” Athletic Director Jerry Haggerty said.

Hamilton looks to try to qualify for the State meet this week at their regional competition in Berrien Springs, MI. They will need to be first or second in their division in order to move on to State.
