Five Hamilton wrestlers advance to regionals

Connor Dams waits for the ref to start the period.

Of the 14 Hawkeyes who competed in districts last Saturday, five will be  moving on to the regional tournament. For the other 9 wrestlers their season is over.

Both Welcher brothers, senior Collin at 119 pounds, and junior Logan at 125 pounds finished as district champs.

Cameron Stoel, also a senior, won the 189 weight class.  Both Collin Welcher and Stoel made it to state last year as juniors, with Welcher finishing second at 103 pounds.

The other two wrestlers who are advancing were Chance Smith who placed 2nd in the 171 weight class,  and  Corey Hassevort at 285.

Senior Josh Parkhurst had a very good chance of making it into regionals, but in the 1st round of districts he separated his left shoulder ending his season.

The other wrestlers that competed in the tournament was  Trenton Holyfield, Connor Dams, Troy Knapp, Drew Boerman, and Zach Ruff.
