Girls cross country 3rd at conference, headed to state

The girls varsity cross country team tied for third with Zeeland West at the OK Green Conference meet on Oct. 17. Holland Christian took first and Byron Center finished second.

Molly Oren and Cathy Coryell earned All-Conference honors by placing in the top 10.

Anna Spotts earned Honorable Mention for her top 14 performance. The placings are determined by the average place a runner finished throughout the season.

“It means a lot to me because it shows all the improvement I have made this year from last year” Spotts said. “Last year I never thought I would be competing anywhere near that place or honorable mention, so it was pretty cool to do so well.”

The girls cross team dual meet record is 2-3 in their regular season.

With the state meet being this weekend, the runners are kicking it into gear more then ever to hopefully improve their personal best or place overall.

“Oren is hoping to finish in 2nd or 3rd place overall,” Coach Travis Pertner said when asked how well he thinks our runners will do this weekend. “Coryell is hoping to get her 4th All-State certificate along with Oren.”
