Hamilton boys win on buzzer beater

Wednesday night Hamilton boys basketball took on arch-rival Holland Christian in a district semi-final showdown. With both games earlier this year coming down to the wire, this one was also sure to be a classic.

The fourth quarter was full of lead changes, and the Hawkeyes seemed to find themselves struggling to keep the lead from a strong Maroon team. With the clock running down and the score tied at 56, Hamilton made the decision to run the clock down and play for the last shot.

Nick Kronemeyer drove to the hole with four seconds left. While his layup missed, it fell right into the hands of Hamilton’s Elijah Walker who made the put back as the buzzer sounded.

Hamilton would win 58-56. Nick Kronemeyer led the Hawks in scoring with 22.

It was a low scoring first quarter, with the Hawkeyes finding themselves down 11-6, but the action would pick up in the second. Led by sophomore guard, Grant Wolfram who scored seven in the quarter including a big three pointer, the Hawks climbed their way back. Hamilton was only down by one, 27-26, going into the half.

It would be more of the same for Hamilton in the third quarter. Who’s strong offense continued and would led to the epic conclusion.

The Hawkeyes will advance on to the district finals and take on Unity Christian on Friday. The game will start at 7:00 and will be played at Hamilton. Hamilton will look for their first district title since 1987.
