Hamilton freshmen move to 5-1 with win over Byron Center

The Hamilton freshmen football team won its game on Thursday, September 27, against Byron Center.

Hamilton had as big as a 22-7 lead at the start of the 4th quarter, but a couple of turnovers allowed Byron Center to inch closer to the Hawkeyes.

Still, Hamilton put the fire out and scored again to seal up the game.

“Turnovers cost us a couple of touchdowns, and our field possession wasn’t that good,” said Coach Mark Behnke,”but I thought our execution was very good and we were the more aggressive team.”

Coach Behnke’s thoughts were also echoed by his players, Steven Redder and Drew Stafford.

“As a team, we played well but there’s always room for improvement,” Redder said.

One of the big plays of the game was a screen pass to Stafford on the 32-yard line of Byron Center that put the Hawkeyes on the 7.

“I caught the ball, made a couple of moves, and got down to the 7,” Stafford said.

Hamilton tries to protect home-field and improve upon their 5-1 record next week against local rival Holland Christian.
