Hamilton freshmen rolls over Holland Christian 32-8

The freshmen football team gathers for a pre-game huddle.

The Hamilton freshmen football team fought against their biggest rival Holland Christian Thursday night.

Hamilton’s coach Mark Behnke emphasized last week the importance of the game by saying it is one of the biggest  games on the schedule – referring to it simply as “the game”.

The surprise about this game was that earlier in the week Hamilton’s quarterback Alec Overbeek was moved up to the JV team leaving the freshman team with a spot to fill. The replacements were Steven Redder and Lucas Reimink.

“We only found out on Monday when the coach told us,” Redder said.

“I’ve practiced a bit (at QB) throughout the season, but mainly just Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday,” said Reimink.

“We have a great chance to play good football,” Coach Behnke said.

Hamilton was able to score two touchdowns  in the first half. However they did not complete both two point conversions. Holland Christian scored once, and the successful two point conversion put the Maroons down at the half,  12-8.

The Hawkeyes scored three touchdowns in the second half and Holland Christian was unable to get any points. Hamilton won 32-8.

Hamilton faces Zeeland West next Thursday.
