Lady Hawkeyes dominate Zeeland West in district semifinals

UPDATE: Hamilton opened up a big lead with a 14-0 third quarter to run away from Zeeland West in the district semifinal on Wednesday night, 43-18.

West kept things close in the first half, trailing the Hawkeyes at the end of the first quarter 9-6.  Hamilton began to pull away as the lead stretched to 19-11 by halftime.

Molly Oren led Hamilton with 10 points, while Carlye Voorhorst and Ashley Overbeek each chipped in with 9.

The Hawkeyes will face a familiar foe in Friday’s district final when they play the Maroons of Holland Christian.  HC defeated Unity Chrisitian 39-32 in the other semifinal game on Wednesday night.  Tipoff for the district final will be 7 p.m. at Unity Christian.

The Hamilton varsity girls basketball team will take on Zeeland West in the district semifinals tonight at Unity Christian.

This is a big game for the state ranked Hawkeyes, who went 19-1 during the regular season and are looking to take a run at a state title this year.

“We need to take it game by game and play our best to get to the district championship,” sophomore Courtney VandeVorde said.

The game will be played tonight at Unity Christian. With a win Hamilton will advance to the district championship on Friday night, bringin them one step closer to their goal of a state title.
