Hamilton Hawkeyes and the Hasting Saxons Tie; 28-28

The Hawkeyes JV football team  played hard and maintained their focus in a very physical game against the Saxons of Hastings.

The Hawkeyes were up 14-6 most of the the first half. They allowed the Saxons to score right before half time. Both teams rolled in the second half. The Hawkeyes had to come back from a touchdown deficit. With 3:36  left  in the game, quarterback Gerrit Eding ran in for the tying touchdown.

“We tried an onside kick, but failed to get the ball and each team had one unsuccessful possession before the end of the game,” Coach Miller said.

Tate Knapp thought that they  lost momentum going into the half when Hastings tied it and they came back out and scored on their first possession of the 3rd quarter.

“The game was a close, hard hitting game that didn’t have enough time to finish,” Knapp said.

Next week the fierce competitive Hawkeyes will duke it out with the Bulldogs of Byron Center.
