Hamilton JV volleyball takes 1st at NorthPointe Christian Tournament

Renne Selle bumps to Josie Grady to set the spike for Melanie Kanine.

The JV girls volleyball team took 1st place at the Northpointe Christian volleyball tournament on Saturday, Sept. 8.

The volleyball team tied its first game against Chippewa Hills, losing the first set 25-24, while winning the second set 25-16.

The girls continued to play hard, winning 4 games in a row.

Devon Castillo hurt her shoulder, which forced her to sit out for the rest of the day. Renee Selle stepped up to play right hitter instead of playing back row, and went through the whole rotation.

The volleyball team swept all the way to the final, playing in the gold bracket against Wyoming. The Hawkeyes won the first set 26-24, and won the second, 25-20.

“Great team play by everyone,” Coach Stephanie DeHorn said, “specifically Devon Castillo and Renee Selle, who needed to play outside of their positions.”

The girls took home a trophy in their hands and a smile on their faces.
