Hamilton students remember 9/11

Many current Hamilton students don’t remember Sept. 11, 2001, thanks to annual remembrances, and traditions established here, we are all realizing how truly heartbreakingthat day was.

On that Tuesday morning, thousands of innocent lives were taken without warning. It was a day that our country decided to take a stand on terror.

In the past several years, Hamilton High School students decided to do something to help people remember that tragic day.  Each year since 2007, students have placed 50 flags around the Hawkeye head near the entrance to the school to help people remember.  The display is part of the Young America’s Foundation “Never Forget” project.

According to Mr. Kevin Weed this tradition will be continued in the future.

“We have a group of students right now who would like to plan for next year’s 9/11 to put out 2,977 flags, one for each victim,” high school teacher Mr. Kevin Weed said.

“I think it is a great way to show respect for the victims of 9/11,” junior Andrew VanHuis said when asked his thoughts on the flags.

Hamilton may not be close to New York, Washington, D.C., or Pennslyvania, but they are always in our hearts when remembering those lost on 9/11.
