Hamilton welcomes new superintendent

This school year Hamilton Community Schools have a new superintendent, Mr. Scott Korpak. Mr. Korpak and his wife have two children. Their son Colson is in 5th grade, and daughter Ashlyn is in 1st grade. Mr. Korpak and his family have lived in the Forest Hills area for the last 10 years.  They have just recently moved to Hamilton.

“My family is adjusting well to our new home,” Mr. Korpak said. “My kids certainly miss their friends from Forest Hills, but we have been overwhelmed with the kindness and the welcome we have received from the Hamilton community.”

Basketball is Mr. Korpak’s favorite sport. His favorite team is the Detroit Pistons.  In Mr. Korpak’s free time he likes to read biographies, and spend time with his family. Mr. Korpak and his family participate in church activities and like to spend time with friends and family.

Mr. Korpak has been working in education since 1993. He has taught second grade from 1993 to 1994, and middle school science from 1994 to 1997. Also he has been the science coordinator for Forest Hills from 1997 to 2001, and a middle school assistant principal from 2001 to 2003. He was also an elementary principal from 2003 to 2008. Mr. Korpak has held many jobs, but according to the people he worked with in the past, has always done a great job.

“He made everyone feel important,” Monica Tomasik, secretary at Thornapple Elementary said.

“The kids came first,” she added. “He wanted school to be a safe environment for the students to learn,” Ms. Tomasik said.

“The work of a superintendent is about working with the parents, teachers, and the community so that the students achieve their individual potential and are successful, in whatever they choose, when they graduate.” Mr. Korpak said. “People are what matter, and that is the focus of my job, and that is why I wanted to be superintendent.”
