Hawkeye varsity soccer loses season finale in overtime

The varsity soccer team was bumped out of districts by Holland Christian in a 2-1 overtime loss.

“It was a good defensive game with great saves by both keepers.” Coach Malefyt said.

Going into half the game remained 0-0.

 After Holland Christian kicked the ball past Hamilton goalie Dayton Pax, Travis Williams scored to tie it up from an assist by Elijah Walker.

Holland Christian scored with 2 minutes left in the second half of overtime to win  2-1.

“We were trying to win the game,” Coach Malefyt said, ” we got caught a little out of position and they made us pay.”

The Hawkeyes had played the Maroons twice this season leading into this big game. The first game the Hawkeyes lost 3-1, but the second game gave them more hope losing 1-0.

The seniors were all bummed at the end of the game.

“It was sad because it was the last high school soccer game I would ever play,” Williams said.
