Hawkeyes 4th at JV tennis tourney

Hamilton came in 4th behind Hudsonville (22 points), Jenison (12), and Unity Christian (8) on Saturday at the Unity Christian Tournament.

Despite only grabbing six points, many of the players had unique personal highlights  that stood out against the over all score of Hamilton’s team.

At No. 4 singles, sophomore Austin Haverdink won all three of his matches to capture the championship in his flight.

He won 6-1, 6-2 against his first opponent from Hudsonville.

Haverdink snatched another win from a Jenison JV player with a 6-1, 6-4 victory.

The player from host Unity Christian proved no problem to him either, as his straight set 6-0, 6-1 win gave him a perfect record at the tournament.

At No. 4 doubles, the team of freshman Justin Collison and sophomore Jacob Reume beat out their opponents 7-5, 7-5 – two win one of two doubles matches for Hamilton.

Collison joined up with junior Matt Miller to take on Unity Christian. They prevailed over three sets 5-7, 6-3, 10-6.

Christian DiCesare won his No. 2 singles match against Unity 6-1, 6-1 for the other Hawkeye point.
