Hamilton’s varsity football team came up short in its bid to gain an automatic berth to the MHSAA playoffs by losing 28-27 to Unity Christian Friday night. However, the Hawkeyes will be playing this week when they travel to Edwardsburg to face the 6-3 Eddies.
In the Unity game, the Hawkeye’s Heath Dannenberg scored his fourth touchdown of the night with less than three minutes remaining to pull Hamilton to within a point. However, the Hawkeyes were stuffed on the two-point conversion giving Unity the victory.
The loss leaves the Hawkeyes with a 5-4 record, one win shy of the six needed to guarantee a playoff berth.
The winner of Hamilton vs. Edwardsburg will play the winner of Holland Chrisitan (5-4) and undeafeated Stevenville Lakeshore (9-0).
