Hawkeyes upend South Haven in opening golf match

The Varsity Girls Golf team defeated South Haven 216 – 246 this morning in the first match of the season.

Hawkeye coach, Mr. Kevin Arnold, is proud, saying “they played fairly well for their first match on a tough golf course.”

“It’s always good to get off with a victory, plus… it gives them confidence.”

Last year, the Hawkeyes placed fifth in their conference. This year, they hope to improve to within the top three.

Arnold also hopes that a few of the players will place in conference this year, or come close to it.

Katie Dent, a senior at Hamilton, is golfing in the number two spot this season, and is proud of this accomplishment as well as looking forward to the season.

“I think that we will keep on improving as a team and as individuals,” she said.

The team puts a lot of effort into the season, practicing three hours a day every weekday during the summer.

“I basically have no life once golf starts,” Dent said.

Arnold said practices are going well so far, with a focus the fundamentals.

“Everybody’s learning, working hard at it, and having some fun at it, so it’s been good,” he said.
