Inside scoop: Hamilton swimmers head to OK Green conference meet

The conference meet will be held at the Holland Aquatic Center on Nov. 2-3.

The team and I have always been part of the OK Green Conference meet, except last year when we were switched to the Rainbow Conference.

I was able to interview Mr. Jerry Hagerty about the changes.

“I said no to being part of the Rainbow Conference, but it was a majority vote through all 49 schools,” Mr. Haggerty said. “The poorer schools wanted to be in a better conference, therefore the vote was brought to place. I did not feel it was necessary to switch when the next year we would just switch back to OK Green.”

So now we are back to OK Green and are ready to bring it. My coach, Mr. Talsma has said that he believes we all are going to have a great taper. A taper is all the swims you’ll do in your big meet broken by 25 yards or 50 yards with an amount of seconds rest.  With that we will have a successful end to our season. We have all worked hard throughout the season. The state team, myself included are hoping to see some more state cuts (qualifying times) this weekend at conference.

I was a able to speak to 2 of the senior swimmers on my team, Emily Everse and Shelby Compton.  They are both four year varsity swimmers.

“It is very sad to have this be my last conference meet,” Compton said. “I will miss my team and swimming is my life.”  She hopes to make state in the 100 Breast on Friday or Saturday. She has had a great taper.

Everse said that she is sad because she’ll miss the team.

“I love my team,” Everse said. Emily hopes to get her best 100 Breast time.

We have had a great swim season and are looking to end it strong. We feel good and fast, so I hope our hard work will pay off.
