JV football loses tight contest to Zeeland East

The JV team stormed onto the field ready to take on the Chix from Zeeland East.

The JV football team finished its season with a tough loss to Zeeland East on Thursday night.

The team had to deal with cold weather, strong winds and rain. Even with these complications piling up against the team, the players fought hard and gave it their all.

Zeeland was able to get on the scoreboard with a touchdown with 1:12 left in the  1st quarter to make the score 7-0.

The Hawkeyes took the lead in the 2nd quarter with a touchdown of their own and coverted the two-point attempt to make the score 8-7.

In the 4th quarter Zeeland east pulled away with a touchdown making the score 27- 14.

“Play football hard and play how it’s supposed to be played,” Coach Jared Randall said trying to keep the energy of the team up during the 4th quarter.

The team picked up their energy after that. The Hawkeyes were able to break away from Zeeland East for a third touchdown to close the gap to 27-22 with 1:22 left in the game, however the Hawkeyes could get no closer.

With the loss, the JV season record was 2-6.
