JV football wins a thriller against HC

The team huddles before a previous game.

After playing last week with the varsity team, the JV was back to playing their own game this week against that private school to the north – known as Holland Christian.

The Maroons traveled to the Hawkeyes home field for this riverly battle that lasted to the very end of the game.

Freshman QB Alec Overbeek got pulled up to the JV this week, and he made a key play down the strech for Hamilton.

While the Hawkeyes trailed most of the game, with two minutes left, Overbeek ran in the two-point conversion putting to put his team ahead 20-19.

“The team played as much enthusiasm and spirit as they have all year,” said Coach Chad Miller. “Being behind most of the game, they remained confident and focused and came out on top because of it.”

Jake Kesler knocked an H.C. player out of the game from a hard hit.

“I wanted to rock the kid,” Kesler replied when asked about hitting the HC player. “I do feel bad and hope he’s okay,” he added.

When asked to compare JV to freshmen football, Overbeek said he thinks that playing on JV is more intense, hard hitting and the pace is way faster.

The Hamilton JV team is currently 3-2-1.

The Hawks travel out to Zeeland West next week to take on the fierce Dux.
