JV girls soccer beats Kenowa Hills Knights

Leanne Vandenberg dribbles past a Holland defender while Kacie Grady (#10) supports her in a game from earlier in the season.

The JV girls soccer team put up a good fight against Kenowa Hills Monday, May 20.

In the first half, the girls were “sluggish” and seemed tired and hot. The Kenowa Hill’s Knights got up to a one-on-one against Hamilton’s goalie Mikayla VanFleeren. The ball got past her, making the score 1-0.

After halftime, the Hawkeyes seemed like a completely different team. They were “awake” and ready to achieve another victory.

A handball inside the box by the Knights allowed Hamilton’s center mid-field Leanne Vandenberg to tie the score, 1-1, when she buried a shot high in the left corner.

Later, Vandenberg took advantage of a pass from a defender, dribbled all the way down the field, and put the Hawkeyes into the lead by score of 2-1.

At the beginning of the season, the girls decided that one of their goals would be more wins than losses. With the win, the team improved to 6-5-3.

This gives the Hawkeyes motivation to win their last game on Wednesday, May 22, against Grand Rapids Christian.
