Lady Hawks beat Allegan, 54-12

The Hamilton girls JV basketball team defeated the Allegan Tigers on Monday, Dec. 4.

With a 42 point win, one could assume that the game was easy, but according to sophomore LeAnne VandenBerg, the team didn’t play as if it was easy.

“It took effort, but it wasn’t extremely challenging,” she said about the opposing team.

Veronica Overbeek agreed.

“We had to play hard, but not super hard,” Overbeek said.

The Hawkeyes played with good communication, passing, and by finding people after making cuts according to VandenBerg. Also the occasional summer-sault over another player.

“Ali and another girl were fighting over the ball on the ground. When she tried to grab it she did a summer-sault over her like this,” Overbeek said as she demonstrated in the school hallway.

That is one of the many laughs the girls are having together.

“I think it’s going to be a fun season,” Devon Castillo commented. “It’s fun. We mess around sometimes, but we are focused too.”

“I think we played really well as a team,” Vandenberg said. “When we get into game, we play really well.”

The team is hoping that the win is one of many.

“I think we are going to have a winning season,” Castillo said.
