Marching band competes in Otsego Band Invitational

The Hamilton High School marching band finished 7th out of nine in their first marching competition of the year last Saturday, September 28 at Otsego High School.

“I think our sound is our greatest strength,” band director Mr. Joe Herrick said “We have a good foundational sound that is beautiful and balanced.”

The Otsego Band Invitational is held at the end of September every year. This year Hamilton competed against the Sturgis, Three Rivers, Dowagiac, Sparta, Gull Lake, Hastings, Plainwell, and Vicksburg bands.

“Everyone there was very skilled,” drum major Cassie Olson said.

Despite an unexpected broken axle on the instrument trailer, and tough competition, the band still made it to the event and gave it their all.

“Honestly, it could have gone better, but it was a chance to see how we can improve,” senior Kimberly Dent said.

The band’s next competition is the MSBOA Marching Festival on Tuesday, October 8th at the Zeeland High School football stadium.
