Mr. Harris re-energizes Close-Up group, plans June trip to Washington, D.C.

Students who have never asked themselves how the government works now have an opportunity to see their government up close.

In the past, Mr. Blood had been in charge of the ”Close Up.”  However, after two years without a trip to Washington, D.C., Hamilton students will have a chance to go on this insider trip again.

Mr. Josh Harris plans to take students to the Close-up program in Washington D.C. after school gets out in June.

The program gives students the chance to meet U.S. Senators and representatives, talk with students from other states, and visit historical monuments.

Since Mr. Blood is now Assistant Principal, Mr. Harris, who had been dreaming for this opportunity, has taken over.

“This is a chance for the students to get an ‘up close’ look at what the government is all about,” Mr. Harris said.

During a morning meeting on November 13, Mr. Harris and Mr. Blood talked to students about the cost, how many people are going, and how many are needed to make this trip a
reality.

“This tour means so much for me,” Mr. Harris said. “Not only me, [but] students would have the opportunity to see so many historical monuments.”

“I never been there,” Mr. Harris said, “so, I don’t know what we are going to see.

“I think it will be a experience that the students can take with them for the rest of their lives,” he said

“This is a different experience every year, ”Mr. Blood said “We not only are going to talk with people from Washington, we would be talking with different senators, and talking about things the students want to know.”

“This is going to be a wonderful experience,” Mr. Harris added. “You are not only going to meet people from Washington, we are going to meet students from other states.”
