Swim team blows by Hudsonville

The boys swim team defeated Hudsonville 110-74 on Thursday, Jan. 20. They placed first in every event, except the 100 breaststroke.

The meet went well with Ryan Hagen getting a new state cut in the 100 free, and Phil VanOss moving closer to a state cut in the 500 free. Hagen also won the 100 back and was on the winning team for the 400 freestyle relay. This two guys contributed to their win, along with the help of their fellow teammates.

“We swam well and are divers did a great job,” Coach Eric Talsma said. ”We finished our races a little better than we have been. We are also gaining some confidence, which is positive.”

Their diving has also improved, as shown by Ryan Overhiser and Adam Littell.

However, the boys still need to work on their speed into their turns. Coach Talsma said they are a little unsure when coming to the wall, however it doesn’t look like it is stopping them from achieving their goal of winning.

The diving section did well with Overhiser scoring his highest points total, and Littell coming back from an injury to score within 2/10′s of his highest score.

“Each of our divers is now one win away from qualifying for the regional meet,” Coach Talsma said.
