Christmas concert brings back cheer

The Christmas Coffee Concert has come and gone once again.

As they had for many years before, the high school music department put on the Christmas Coffee Concert for everyone on Thursday, December 19, in the hopes of bringing back the Christmas cheer. Performances included songs from Honor’s Choir, Women’s Chorale, and MTC.

Christmas, which was only a short amount of time away, is always a time for love, warmth, and family, and that’s something that the Hamilton community needed more than ever before.

Honor’s Choir sang “Silent Night”,  “Carol of the Bells”, “What Child Is This?”, “O Magnum Mysterium”, “Doo-Wop Christmas”, and “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch”.

Women’s Chorale sang “Noel Noel”, “It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas”, “Under Winter Moon”, and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”.

And MTC sang “Nonny Nonny No”, “White Christmas”, and “Island Noel”.

The “Hallelujah Chorus” was sang by Women’s Chorale, Honors Choir, and anyone who wanted to come up on stage and sing.

“This is my last year in choir, and was I so excited to be a part of the Christmas concert.” Women’s Chorale’s Allie Egel said. “Women’s Choir had been working hard, as I’m sure all of the classes had been, and we’re were ready to preform our best.”

With the passing of Mr. Joshua Hoppe, each music class had dedicated one song to the memory of him. Honors Choir dedicated “It Is Well With My Soul”, Women’s Chorale dedicated “Fix You”, and MTC dedicated “Lean On Me”. Each performance was heart wrenching and a perfect way to honor Hoppe.

“We wanted to do something for Mr. Hoppe,” Women’s Chorale and MTC’s Claire Lohman said, “so it was decided that having songs dedicated to him would be a good idea. It was hard not to cry while singing.”

As in the past, the concert was seperated into two parts. The first concert was of all the students in the music classes, and the second concert, placed in the caferteria, consisted of solos, duets, and groups that had auditioned and trained hard for their chance to spread some Christmas cheer.

The following performed in the cafeteria:

Junior Group:                                                                                                                             “Sleigh Ride”

Haley Tanis                                                                                                                               “Let It Snow!”

Falina Baker                                                                                                                               “Promises to Keep”

“My friend, Jessie Walters, and I had a duet in the second part of the concert, and we were really excited. We had been practicing after school,” Egel said. ” ‘Where are you Christmas?’ is a favorite of mine. I knew that singing in front of people was going to be a lot of fun.”

Not only was this concert a heartwarming event for the singers, but a special time for the audience too. These songs brought back the reason for the season, which is not just to be on Santa’s nice list but to give hope and cheer the others who are in need of it.

The Christmas Concert, both parts, were a great success. People sang only with their favorite songs, ate cheese cake, and remembered what the real reason for Christmas.

Merry Christmas!
