The rivalry continues: Hamilton to host Holland Christian

A highly anticipated rivalry is set to be renewed on Friday night as Holland Christian heads to Hamilton High School to face the Hawkeyes. Both teams have had early season struggles, but a big rivalry win could get them on the right track.

Holland Christian has gotten off to a slow 2-4 start, however their losses have come from some stiff competition. Three of their four losses have come from Class A schools Holland, West Ottawa and Grand Haven.

The Hawkeyes are 3-3 and have stepped up their game recently with a close loss to Wyoming Park and a win over Wyoming Rogers. The Hawkeyes got help from an energized student section last Friday and hope to have another energized game on Friday as they face a tough rival in the Maroons.

In the last five years the Hawkeyes are 0-6 against Holland Christian including two postseason losses. Despite the bad luck against the Maroons, head coach Steve Sikma thinks it could be different this year.

“They aren’t the typical dominant Holland Christian team,” said coach Sikma when asked about the matchup, “A key for us on Friday is patience, they play a zone defense, and with long arms they can fill a lot of space, we need to be patient and get open looks.”

“They are very beatable team if we shoot the ball well,” said coach Sikma.
