Varsity football comes back, but falls in close loss to Hastings

The Hamilton varsity football hosted Hastings in the first home game of the year for the Hawkeyes.

It was a hard fought game as the Hawkeyes came back after being down 32-15 at the half, before falling short, 40-30.

The first quarter featured one score. A six yard touchdown run for Hastings that was set up by 52 yard gain.

In the second it looked as though Hastings would add on to that, but the Hamilton defense held their ground on a 4th and goal.

Hastings would capitalize on their next possession with a long drive ending in a touchdown run.

The Hawkyes offense answered right back with a touchdown run from junior quarterback, Brady Mudd. The second quarter featured two more scores for Hastings and a touchdown connection for Hamilton from Brady Mudd to Jared Overbeek. The Hawks found themselves down 32-15 heading into the locker room.

Hastings opened up the third with another touchdown run, but that would be the last they would get on the board. Brady Mudd would get his second rushing score of the game to end the third quarter with Hamilton down 40-23.

The Hawkeyes scored once in the fourth on a Trenton Alexander touchdown run.

Hamilton is now 1-4 on the season and will face rival Holland Christian next Friday for Homecoming.
