Varsity girls basketball zooms past ThornApple Kellogg 62-36

The Hawkeyes lost the services of senior Kate Kooiker (right) for the regional final. Here, she and junior Ashley Overbeek (left) battle for the ball against TK Middleville.

With the student section decked out in white,  Hamilton got off to an early lead against Thornapple Kellogg and never trailed again as every player scored in a 62-36 victory.

Over fifty students were decked out in white and stood for the Hawkeyes until the end of both games.

“TK is well coached and they are always well prepared,” Coach VanHekken said.

That didn’t stop the girls.  Carlye Voorhorst led the team with 18 points. Ashley Overbeek and Jenna Schra contributed by also scoring in double  figures.

Hamilton extended its lead in the fourth quarter  by scoring 24 points while Thornapple Kellogg scored a mere 7 points.

The varsity girls (5-0) will try to stay undefeated when they take on Wayland Union on Friday and get that sixth win.

Hamilton was knocked out of the tournament last year by the Wildcats.
