Varsity soccer wins with last second goal against Byron Center

Team jogs across field after win.

The Hawkeyes varsity boys soccer team pulled off an exciting 1-0 win yesterday as Elijah Walker scored the game winning goal with about two minutes left in the game on a pass from Brady Zomer.

“I felt relieved scoring the game winning goal because the team was tired,” Walker said.

He hopes to win districts and believes the team is playing better together than last year.

“It was a tight game throughout, with both teams having a chance to score the go ahead goal,” Hamilton head coach Ted Malefyt said. “After a tough game against Holland, I was curious to see our energy level. It was nice to pick that up as the game went on.”

The next game will be home against Holland Christian next Monday, Sept. 17.
