Varsity volleyball spikes Wyoming Park

Coach Ekkens encouraging her team before the game starts.

The girls played well and everyone contributed in the game against Wyoming Park. It was an easy win and gave the girls a good confidence booster. The Hawkeyes cruised 25-12, 25-10, 25-15.

The team has relied on the seniors to lead them to a successful season. A successful season will be measured by the team’s concept of family and a team environment.

The girls are learning a lot and meshing together better in the second half of the season. The team is learning to communicate better and working hard to get adjusted to new players. The team strengths are a good work ethic and a vast amount of energy.

Assistant Coach Jill Immink works mainly with the hitters and blockers, but also does anything else she can to help the players and their performance.

“We as a team need to work on communication to improve in practice and for the rest of the matches this season,” junior Niki DeNeef said.

Head Coach Abby Ekkens believes that the Holland Christian game will pose the toughest challenge on them as a team and their success. Byron Center will also be a tough match to beat.

When asked what game she was most excited for, junior Jenna Schra said, “the Holland Christian Game, of course!”
