The Hamilton Hawkeyes girls varsity basketball team battled against Wayland high school on Friday night, but lost the fight with a score of 63-44.

Wayland took the lead right away against the Hawkeyes by a score of 18-4 after the first period.

The Wildcat passing game may have been the key to the Hawkeye defeat, for the Hawkeyes could not stop it, and Wayland scored several easy baskets after great set-up passes.

According to Hawkeye Head Coach Dan VanHekken, the Wildcats jumped out to a hot shooting night from the get go.

Presley Hudson led the Wildcats with 22 points including six 3-pointers. Hudson shot 6 for 7 behind the three-point line which helped Wayland get the victory. Alli Getty was not far behind Hudson scoring 19 points.

Rachael Tolsma lead the Hawkeyes with 17 points – 9 of which came from the free throw line. Freshman Brooklyn Groenheide added 8 points of her own, making two 3-pointers.
