Wrestlers look to be competitive once again

The varsity wrestlers are looking forward to a great season.

Varsity coach Greg Stoel says that even though the team graduated several seniors who placed at state, they have a good number of kids who have experience, but were not starters in their weight class.

Junior Tyler Berghorst felt the same.

“We’ll fill our weights well,” he said. “We want to win conference as a team.”

Senior Corey Schrotenboer realizes this is his last chance to move up at state.

“It was nice to place at state, but I was on the lowest step of the podium,” he said. “This year, I want to be on top of it and look down at everyone.”

The 140 pound senior also wants the team to compete well, saying that he wants the team to make it to the state meet in Battle Creek this year.

The wrestlers aren’t the only ones with high expectations though. Coach Stoel has also said that he wants to win conference, but also expects the guys to be a few other things.

“Our team goals this year,” he said, “are to have every wrestler eligible for every meet, for all of them to have improved personal responsibility, and to be the best conditioned team we wrestle.”

Assistant Coach Brian Morrison summed the teams up coming season well, saying
“We’re looking forward to competing in our new league.”
