The Hamilton wrestling team has prepared and is ready for the season. This is the Hawkeye’s 45th season. The team lost 3 starters from last year, but are still expected to challenge every team. With those departures the team has 4 returning starters. One of  whom is Collin Welcher who placed 2nd in the state meet last year at 103 pounds.

“I think I can make it back there, and make a push for the podium,” Welcher said about this coming season.

Welcher, along with fellow senior Chance Smith have high expectations for the team this year. Although Smith didn’t qualify for the state tournament, he believes he can make it to state and place in the top 3 or 4.

Senior Cameron Stoel is also very excited for the season. One of the things he’s most looking forward to is the team’s potential. Even with 12th ranked-Allegan being moved into Hamilton’s district, Stoel, Smith, and Welcher all believe they can give them a run for their money.

Along with his individual goals, Chance Smith wants the team to be Academic All-State. “It’s something we shoot for every year,” Smith said.

Last year’s returning captains, Smith, Stoel, and Welcher, all have high expectations for themselves to be leaders for the team.

The team started conditioning in November led by Smith and Welcher, along with Logan Welcher and Zach Ruff.
