Wrestling state finals: two advance, two fall

Collin Welcher and Cameron Stoel both made it to the podium at the individual state finals.

Hamilton seniors Cameron Stoel and Collin Welcher both went 2-1 in their first three matches at the Division II individual state finals this weekend.

Their respective losses dropped them each into the lower bracket, which means the best they can finish will be 3rd in the state.

Welcher, the runner-up last year at 103 pounds, is competing at 119 this year. He faces Jake Busing from Byron Center in the next round after defeating Ameer Munassar from Melvindale 13-4 in his most recent match.

Stoel defeated Harun Bogdanic from Hamtramck 10-3 yesterday to advance to face Landon Pelham of Tecumseh at 189 pounds later today.

Juniors Corey Hassevort (285) and Logan Welcher (125) were both knocked out of the tournament.   Welcher squeezed a win by forfeit in between two losses, while Hassevort dropped both his matches.
