With the dual meet season coming to a close, the wrestling team will be headed to districts. The team has a strong district record winning it 11 years in a row going for their 12th. The district has changed since past years, and included the powerhouse Allegan Tigers this year, as Zeeland West has moved to a different district. The team will face Allegan and Holland on Wednesday night at Holland High.

Head coach Gregg Stoel mentioned that he doesn’t feel any pressure going into districts having won 11 in a row. He views winning it as a tradition.

“Our kids are confident in their abilities and motivated to do there best and it’s their best is all I can ask of them,” Stoel said.

Stoel also believes that they are going into districts this year being the underdogs, but stated that the wrestlers this year have came through many times this year.

Stoel doesn’t mind Allegan being in the district, and he would rather wrestle them now than later down the road. He thinks if they win close matches and have an upset or two that they could come out victorious.

Team districts start tonight at 6:00 p.m. with Hamilton facing Allegan in the first round.
